ALICE IS IN THE MOOD FOR A DIFFERENT KIND OF WONDERLAND

Local Hookah Lounge hosts an Alice in Wonderland that is definitely not traditional.

A ready-made atmosphere sets the stage for the first independent production of the MOODY MYSTERY THEATRE. The 40 Thieves Hookah Lounge presents Alice in Wonderland, a three-ring adaptation of Carroll’s classic. Performances are March 28 & 29 at 9:00pm. The 40 Thieves Hookah Lounge is located at 1524 North Academy Blvd, just north of the intersection of Palmer Park and Academy. Tickets are $12. Advance tickets may be purchased for $10 at www.moodytouringmysteries.com or 40thievesonline.com/store/showtickets.html. The 40 Thieves Hookah Lounge is an adult establishment. All viewers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

But wait a second, Alice in Wonderland is not a mystery. Is it? In the hands of the capable writers at MOODY MYSTERY THEATRE, yes. The classic and well-known story of young Alice and her adventures down the rabbit hole have been adapted into a three-ring journey within Alice’s psyche. Explored are the conflicts between the layers of Alice’s consciousness. No longer is she the innocent and lost little girl of bedtime stories. The question is, who is she? Is she kind and gentle, is she manipulative, is she just plain mad? In this brilliantly written and directed play, Alice has found her place in Wonderland and she is finally revealed as the person she has always been.
The show combines the enticing world of Wonderland with the mystic world of belly dance and Latin dance. There is also a special appearance by hand drummers from the Pikes Peak Drum Tribe.

The MOODY MYSTERY THEATRE is a new theatre company based in Colorado Springs. The Moody, as it is affectionately called, is a reflection on how different theatergoers feel from day to day. They specialize in adaptable mystery plays, both original and previously produced. The goal of MMT is to produce plays that are thought provoking and stimulating, yet appropriate for a wide range of people. Tammy Smith started the company in June 2007. Tammy directed a mystery play while a student at UCCS in 2006 and realized that, after playing to several sold-out houses, there is a need for more mystery theatre here in The Springs.
